Microform cleft lip

So Haylie is now diagnosed with a microform cleft lip and her pedi is recommending getting surgery in the next few weeks....we haven't for sure made up our minds but i think we are going to do the surgery. We are all worried about it and worried about how our little girl will handle it.
I just feel like she is perfect the way she is! She is the most amazing baby!! just worried about the whole thing, i guess mainly just doing the "mommy thing".
Ill keep you all updated on what is going on with all this. If the surgery does happen the surgeon wanted it done in the next few weeks and I'm hoping to push it till Jan. so she can enjoy her first Christmas!!

  1. hi. i would definitely take her to a specialist. the surgeon will check out the muscles of her lip and her palate to determine if she needs the surgery for reasons other than cosmetic. i'm sure you would want to get it done if it would prevent speach impedements. it would have been hard for me to do at 5 months because i would have worried about nursing. now i am puting it off because fred doesn't need it and i feel bad making him have surgery just because society will label him as different. i still haven't decided.
    good luck!

  2. yea i am also nursing but the specialist we saw said that it wouldnt effect it..i hope it doesnt because she will not take a bottle! What did they do to determine he doesnt need the surgery? they only looked at haylie's nothing in depth but should i ask them to examine the muscle more or something? maybe ill make another visit to the childrens hospital so i can ask more questions. I saw the close up pics of your son and Haylie's is the same as his! i need to post a better pic this one looks blurry. thanks! and good luck to you both as well!
